Are you brand new to yoga? Intrigued by meditation? Too busy to make it to a class and want an instructor in your living room? You've come to the right place! I offer private or group yoga and meditation sessions based on your needs. I can work with you on mindfulness, alignment, flexibility, and strength. I specialize in adults and children.

Physically, yoga can help you gain strength, improve flexibility and balance, relieves back pain, helps you sleep, perfects posture, protects the spine, the list goes on and on. A recent study even showed that yoga helps with memory loss in an aging population. Newcomers to yoga, however, often don't realize the mental aspects.

"Yoga is a psychology -- the whole practice helps us work with the nature of the mind, the nature of being a human, how emotions live in our bodies, how they affect our behavior and our minds" -- Ashley Turner, yoga/meditation teacher

Traditionally, the practice of yoga was to help control the fluctuations of the mind. Today, we often find ourselves and our bodies constantly in fight or flight mode. This state of being raises cortisol levels and stress in the body. Yoga helps to calm the sympathetic nervous system (the fight or flight mode) and allows us to transition to the parasympathetic nervous system, the rest and digest state, where we feel less stressed and anxious.

Now you may be asking, can yoga help me lose weight? The answer is yes, but not necessarily because of the physical practice. Yes, yoga burns calories. But, yoga and meditation teaches us to be mindful of what and how much we are putting in our mouths. When we become more aware of our bodies and what it takes to make our bodies feel good, we learn to feed ourselves what our bodies want. Yoga teaches us how to listen to our bodies and this has both mental and physical benefits!
